Welcome to Our New and Improved Council Site!

Stop by to learn how you can get involved with the Piedmont Area Reading Council

We are working hard to improve your experience on the Piedmont Area Reading Council homepage!

Membership

The Piedmont Area Reading Council (PARC) has big ideas for this year, but our council needs YOU as a member. If you are a classroom teacher, instructional assistant, reading specialist, literacy coach, homeschooling parent, or school administrator, you have much to gain and share with our group. We hope you'll consider joining and participating in our organization this year.

Fall Mini Conference

Soon, we will share the details of our upcoming mini conference scheduled for Saturday, September 24th at Central Virginia Community College. We will be featuring VSRA past president and ILA board member, Mrs. Cathy Collier, Literacy Coach and Specialist from Chesapeake, Virginia as our keynote speaker in addition to breakout sessions for a complete conference for free! Registration information will be uploaded soon, so be sure to check back early next month.

What Our Council Offers

In case you did not know, our council has been quite involved with literacy events and activities in our area and beyond. Last year, we sponsored the Young Writers Contest, provided books for International Literacy Day, partnered several local schools with colleges mentors, and joined VSRA at the state conference, but this is a small list compared to what we could do with additional members and volunteers.

So...Don't forget to join VSRA and PARC for all the benefits of membership including a discounted registration for the state conference.
