Building Young Writers with Writer's Workshop

Whether your students are in kindergarten, third grade, middle school or high school, the Young Writers contest provides a great opportunity. It is a writing task that fits any writing theme you may already have in place, so we hope that you'll take this opportunity to enter your students' work. In years past, teachers went to great efforts to publish beautiful books, and although beautiful books make great keepsakes, the focus for judging will be on the content of the finished product.
To help support teachers in the area of writing, we thought we'd share with you links to blog posts and articles that may help you with implementing writer's workshop in your classroom. Below, please find the titles and a brief summary of the link information.

YOUNG WRITERS PROJECT

The Young Writers Contest has been distributed to all division contacts. If you have not received the packet from your division contact you may download it using the link below. If you received it, we will alert you to two important updates. First, this year, we have enlarged the poetry criteria to include between three and five poems. There was a discrepancy in one place where the file was not edited to read five instead of four poems. Also, PARC judging will occur on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST. Division judging will be completed by FEBRUARY 9TH so that the winning entries can be forwarded to the PARC board. [CLICK HERE] to download the Young Writers packet.

Sincerely,
The PARC Board
