PARC Planning Meeting

As we approach the end of the year and consider the needs we have for next year, we feel it's a good time to reflect on what's working well, where are we needing help (and we all do), and what can we do about it. Our meeting THIS THURSDAY from 5:30-7:00 PM at the Lynchburg Public Library is intended to provide us with time to reflect and respond to these needs.

Schedule:

Our evening will begin with a pizza and salad dinner at 5:30. We can chat as we eat and develop the plan from 6:00-7:00. The meeting is casual, so please feel free to throw on your yoga pants and relax!

What Should I Bring?

You can come with nothing at all or with ideas to share. If you are excited about something great at your school, please feel free to bring handouts to share with others. Round table discussions are great for talking through ideas, and we all know many heads are better than one! We will be sharing a collection of event ideas sponsored by other reading councils as well as Orton Gillingham tips, etc. We also will share changes coming from VSRA as well as our own chapter. (such as our new website).

I can't attend, but I have suggestions.

If this describes you, please feel free to email suggestions to us. We would love to include your ideas in our planning. Once the meeting is over, we will share the minutes with you so that you can see what was discussed.

Final Thoughts:

Our group needs additional board members. The board currently includes six people planning events for sixteen school divisions, private schools, and homeschooling families. With this many districts, we'd love to see our membership grow to a few hundred members. Being on the board is a fun way to connect with other literacy leaders, plan and present professional development workshops for others, and develop leadership skills. Our hope is that we can develop planning committees with additional board members to make events run smoothly, etc. Let us know if you are interested.

We have a date and location ready to share for our fall conference. It will be Saturday, September 21st at Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg. If you have suggestions for presentors or would like to be considered, please email us and Meg Racanelli will get in touch with you.

Finally, we hope to see you Thursday!

Sincerely,
The PARC Board
